A Fresh Start at The Island |
A great day at The Island opened the 2011 season for Myo’s. There had been gloomy forecasts of rain but thankfully the met men got it slightly wrong and it was a fine, if windy day, with lots of sunshine. Despite a few late cancellations, fifty-nine members and four visitors played on the day. This fantastic links was in great condition and the strong winds ensured it lived up to it’s challenging reputation. The par 3s proved very tough on the day and in conditions where a lot of drivers came out for the short holes, nobody managed to score a two. This means a nice carry-over to Carlow on 13th May. Our thanks to Noel Murray who, despite being in recovery after a hip replacement, was on duty at the course making sure things went smoothly for members checking in and afterwards at the presentations in Myo’s. There was a good crowd back for the few pints with the top honours going to Liam Delaney who made the best of local knowledge at his home course, scoring what was on the day a great 38 points. Liam was Captain of The Island in 2006 and we thank him for his assistance in the arranging this outing. Well done to everyone who played and especially those who came back for the presentations, a large part of what makes us a real society. Nice to see a number of members who could not make the outing showing up on the night.
