Portmarnock Links 2016

OUR NEXT OUTING:
  Portmarnock Links

  Thursday 6th October

Portmarnock Golf Links is a championship course built on land that was once home to the Jameson whiskey family – they’re long gone but you can still sample their product at the Jameson bar in the hotel if the notion takes you.

This magnificent 6,444-metre (7,047 yds) links opened in 1995. The Jamesons had built a private nine hole course on the site in 1858 and that was one of Ireland’s first golf facilities. Even though the original course disappeared many years ago, architect Bernhard Langer incorporated some of its elements into his modern design.

The first 6 holes are played away from the coastal area before moving towards the sea and then along the Irish Sea in the home stretch. This challenging track has proved very popular with our members over the years.

This is a great venue to open our 2016 tour and we expect to see a big turnout, so get your name down early. See you there.

  • Please arrive early and check in at least 30 minutes before your tee time.
  • Check which tees are in play on the day.
  • Familiarise yourself with the Local Rules of the course.
  • Don’t forget the 2s club – a birdie could add to your fortune (full details here)

Before you return your card:

  • Ensure all scores are CLEARLY entered – including points totals. Make sure your FULL NAME and HANDICAP are clearly printed and the card is signed.  Messy or illegible cards lead to errors in checking and can result in your card being eliminated!Illegible cards
  • Please circle any 2s on your card if you have entered the 2s Club – it speeds up checking.
  • Is your handicap correct and up-to-date on the card? No handicap on the card will disqualify you.
  • Double check all the scores and make sure your card is signed by you AND the marker. Mistakes cannot be corrected after cards are returned.
  • Please return cards only in the Myo’s box provided at the course – the box will be removed 10 minutes after the last group finishes their round.
  • Cards will not be accepted elsewhere or afterwards. Please do not ask as checking is usually finalised at the course.

And after the game …

  • Please join us in Myo’s for the presentation of prizes – it’s a big part of what our society is all about!
  • Lots of pick-out prizes for those of us who are not in the winners’ enclosure (only for those attending).
