The day before our Killeen Castle outing there were dire warnings of heavy rain and all the usual doom and gloom that goes with it. But the weather forecasters were wrong, and for once we were glad they were wrong because they were wrong the right way. Despite heavy overnight rain, the day was fine and we even had sunshine. This was t-shirt weather.
We had sixty-nine players on the day, including four visitors. This was down from the numbers on the timesheet (a week before we had 93!), but still a great turnout. Golfers who refused to be intimidated by the weather warnings were rewarded with a magnificent course on a fine and calm day.
The course has great drainage and apart from a little casual water in some small areas of the deeper rough, the conditions were great. Thankfully, none of our players were in the rough so it had little effect.
This is our third year in a row at Killeen Castle and it looks it might become a regular fixture, judging by our members enthusiasm for the course.
Well done to all the prizewinners and a special mention for the four members who scored twos – they got €60 each, thanks to a carryover from the Hermitage outing in May.
Many thanks to all the members who came back to Myo’s for the presentations on the night where sixteen main prizes and thousands of pick-outs were distributed to those present.
